Yes, people were pretty stoked to see some improvements, but this wasn't the sports video game to put sports video games on top. More time would pass in order for that to transpire. This next one reaped the benefits of the 8-bit gaming revolution, and people still rave about it to this day. This one held the top spot for football video game fans forever.

 

Makes sense that it was so revered by the hardcore gamer - it really was the first true attempt to recreate the NFL. Football video games went to the next level with that one, due to the much needed upgrades. Judging by its online revival, people still enjoy it today in small doses. Yet, it's still a poor man's PS3 Madden 10. When you've seen all the rest, now take a look at the best. As you can see, football video games have evolved exponentially since their first appearance. No need to keep bagging on the old stuff. No need to beat a dead horse. Those games, while archaic, got us to where we are today, and for that, they deserve their place in the video game hall of fame (though that first one may be better off in "video game hall of shame.")
